CHEFS AND REGIONAL PRODUCERS AT THE ‘BOM PARA A MADEIRA’ FESTIVAL

Octávio Freitas, Maurício Faria, Júlio Pereira and Chakall are the guest Chefs of the ‘Bom Para a Madeira’ Festival, which takes place in Praça do Povo, in Funchal. Throughout Sunday afternoon, June 4th, each of the Chefs will present their own vision of local cuisine and exclusive dishes with the best that Madeira has to offer. At 3 p.m., visitors can also attend a workshop by nutritionist Dr. Márcia Freitas on balanced lifestyles and nutrition.

And to make known the best that the island has to offer, 12 local producers will be at the ‘Bom Para a Madeira’ Festival displaying, offering tastings and selling regional products such as wines, liqueurs and soft drinks, cheeses, bakery products, traditional sweets, tuna, eggs and fruit.

This Festival organized by Continente, and free access, represents the celebration of regional traditions, which combine music with gastronomy, namely, with tastings of local products and showcookings by renowned Chefs, in addition to activities dedicated to the younger ones.

‘BOM PARA A MADEIRA’ SHOWCOOKINGS/WORKSHOPS STAGE PROGRAMME

Chef Octávio Freitas – 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Chef, owner of the OF School and presenter, Octávio Freitas fulfils his childhood dream of succeeding in the kitchen. He has a name and registered trademark in all parts of the island and is recognized the ability to leave its flavour in today's youth. Today, he has almost 200 students in fifteen schools, recognizing that his work was responsible for the passion developed by many kids.

Chef Maurício Faria – 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

This Chef’s story in the kitchen began in his teens, with a friend who, at the time, captivated him towards the kitchen as a professional outlet. Challenge accepted. Maurício Faria’s cuisine is stunning in every way. A broader tasting confirms his professional career of unquestionable level, always surrounded by great professionals and in well-known spaces.

Chef Júlio Pereira – 2:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.

The passion for cooking began in his father’s butchers, in his grandfather’s gardens and in his mother’s kitchen. The essence of the product and its season is engraved in his genes. In 2018, he opened the ‘Kampo’ restaurant in Funchal, bringing together meat and country products that he has enjoyed since childhood. Having conquered the palate of Madeirans, he opened the ‘Akua’ restaurant in 2019, bringing the flavours of the sea to the table.

Nutritionist Márcia Freitas – 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A healthy lifestyle enthusiast, her passion for nutrition came about through a personal battle she had to fight to maintain a healthy weight. Graduated in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Porto, she has a clinic named after her and has been collaborating with’ Antena 3 Madeira’ for 9 years on a section on nutrition.

Chef Chakall – 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

He grew up in his mother’s restaurant, served food and between the age of 14 and 18 was in charge of the kitchen. When he came of age, he went to study journalism. He worked for 7 years at the ‘El Cronista’ newspaper, then resigned and decided to travel around the world. First, he took a motorcycle trip through Latin America, like Che Guevara. Then he went to discover the charms of Africa.
