WINES, SAUSAGES AND CHEESES WITH DISCOUNTS OF UP TO 70% ON CONTINENTE

The Wine, Sausage and Cheese Fair returns to Continente stores, with over 500 wines from 150 national producers, 90% of which are on sale, with discounts of up to 70%, until October 16th. This is a fair where support for national production is celebrated, with over 4 million bottles having been sold in the 2021 edition.

This year, we highlight the wines awarded in the ‘Uva de Ouro’ Awards’ 9th edition, a competition recognized by the Vine and Wine Institute which, after blind tastings, awarded 177 wines. Among the 94 Gold medallists are exclusive wines from Continente’s cellar, such as the ‘Paulo Laureano Signature’ red from Alentejo with an RRP of €6.99 (60% share on a recommended RRP of €17.89), the ‘Contemporal’ Douro white with an RRP of €2.29, the ‘São Domingos Millésime’ Sparkling Wine with an RRP of €5.99 (50% share on the recommended RRP of €11.99) or the ‘José Maria da Fonseca 10 years Superior’ Muscat with an RRP of €10.99 (50% share on the recommended RRP of €21.99).

Among the more than 30 new wines at the fair, there are the two new limited author editions by the ‘Contemporal’ range: From Douro with an RRP of €6.99, with the contribution of winemaker Dirk Niepoort, and from Lisbon with an RRP of €6.99, from winemaker Diogo Lopes.

In terms of innovations, we highlight the launch of two low-alcohol red wines – ‘Sobreiro de Pegões’ with 10% alcohol with an RRP of €2.99 (50% share on a recommended RRP of €5.99) and ‘Valmaduro Lisboa’ with 10.5% with an RRP of €3.99 (60% share on the recommended RRP of €9.99) -, and the first Dry Muscat from Setúbal, the ‘Vinha da Valentina Seco’ with an RRP of €8.99 (30% share on the recommended RRP of €12.99), which presents a 60% reduction in the usual sugar content in this type of beverage.

In terms of single-variety wines, some of the exclusive novelties in Continente’s cellar are the ‘Tapada das Lebres Syrah Premium’ red from Alentejo with an RRP of €4.89 (65% share on the recommended RRP of €13.99), the ‘Adega de Mangualde Coleção do Mocho Touriga Nacional’ red from Dão with an RRP of €3.99 (a share of more than 50% on the recommended RRP of €6.99) and the ‘Vale do Rocim’ Organic from Alentejo with an RRP of €7.99 (a share of €20 % on the recommended RRP of €9.99). Also from Alentejo, the ‘Mestre Xico’ red with an RRP of €5.49 (45% share on the recommended RRP of €9.99), from Casa Francisco Nunes Garcia, and the ‘Lagar dos Perdigões Reserva’ red (€4.99), from Monte dos Perdigões, are the new references for sale exclusively on Continente.

From Douro, the ‘Castelinho’ Reserve stands out with an RRP of €3.59 (60% share on the recommended RRP of €8.99) and the Grand Reserve red with an RRP of €7.99 (50% share on the recommended RRP of €15.99), both with prolonged aging in oak barrels. From other regions, customers can opt for the ‘Flor de Lagoalva’ red from the Tejo region with an RRP of €3.59 (60% share on the recommended RRP of €8.99) – from the producer Quinta da Lagoalva -, for the ‘Pancas’ Reserve red from Lisboa, with an RRP of €3.99 (55% share on the recommended RRP of €8.99) – from Quinta de Pancas -, or for the ‘Conde de Calhariz’ red from Setúbal’s Peninsula, with an RRP of €2.99 (€70 % share on the recommended RRP of €9.99) - from the producer José Maria da Fonseca.

For charcuterie lovers, the fair marks the relaunch of Continente Seleção’s ham range, which is based on attributes such as the breed, the sliver-like cut (as cut by hand) and a curing time of 24 months (from 5, 99€). The Duroc Sirloin 100g (€3.19), from Sanchez Alcaraz, and the ‘Casa do Monte’ Duroc Grand Reserve Ham (€2.69), aged for 15 months, are distinguished by their succulence and a more refined flavour, characteristic of the breed. For festive occasions, the range of festive Italian charcuterie boards, with their thin cuts and ready to eat are the right choice (from €5.99). Regarding ‘alheiras’ (Portuguese sausage), we suggest the ‘A. Montesinho’ game sausage balls (€2.69), ready to go in the oven, and the ‘Prisca’ alheira sausage trilogy (€5.99), made up of 3 smaller alheira sausages, ideal for a snack or a starter.

Regarding cheeses, the focus is on smaller formats, namely the sheep’s cheese and the goat’s cheese from ‘Herdade da Maia’ for €5.19, with a special 4 month maturation period, which refer to the flavour of the traditional Alentejo cheese, and also the ‘Mistério do Pico’ cow cheese (€2.49), produced in the Azores.

The ‘Santiago’ brand also presents two cheese boards, produced with 100% Portuguese milk and ready to go on the table (from €4.49) and there are also two sets of 3 cheeses from the ‘Serras de Penela’ brand (€3.79) and from the ‘Monte da Soalheira’ brand (€5.19), with different flavours.

Continente’s Wine, Sausage and Cheese Fair is a way to support and pay tribute to national production, showcasing the quality and diversity of Portuguese products, from different regions and different producers. In the wine category alone, the Continente Producers Club already has more than 50 national members and partners, thus reinforcing this sector’s dynamism and quality in Portugal.
