Sonae MC and Iscap launch higher education course
Sonae MC and the Superior Institute of Accounting and Administration of Porto (ISCAP), of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP), launched the Professional Technical and Superior Course (CTeSP) in Commercial Management at the Point of Sale, in order to recognize the professional experience of employees and promote upskilling in the retail company.
The goal of this course, which started on November 3rd, in the post-employment regime and in a b-learning format, is to develop skills in Sonae MC professionals who perform functions within the scope of Commercial Management at the Point of Sale, and which, for having more than 5 years of professional experience in this area of activity, will benefit from the recognition process of up to 50% of the frequency of the study cycle, accelerating the obtaining of the diploma.
Within the guidelines of Decree-Law No. 65/2018, Sonae MC is the first company to enter into a partnership, in Portugal, in this area, for a group of 20 active people in its company. This project promotes the late entry into higher education of students over the age of 30, integrated into the labour market, leading to the development of skills such as learning to learn.
The course lasts for 1 year, plus a 6-month internship, at the activity site and allows Sonae MC’s employees, who have a school education at the 12th grade level (corresponding to Level 3 of the National Qualifications Framework), to increase their education. The conclusion of the course gives a diploma of Higher Professional Technician, with level 5 qualification from the National Qualifications Framework.
Elisabete Robalo, Coordinator of Sonae MC’s ‘Qualifica’ Centre, says that “as one of the main private employers in Portugal, Sonae MC has the responsibility to respond to qualification needs, investing in the retraining of the careers of its employees, as well as in their training and specialization, both at secondary and superior levels. In addition, this is a way of valuing and recognizing our people who, due to their years of experience, are legitimately deserving of updating and increasing their education”.
The Course intends to train professionals able to coordinate and carry out activities associated with the point of sale’s management, also supporting the planning, organizing, and directing of the point of sale’s commercial teams, developing communication strategies, organization and layout of the point of sale, through management of marketing resources. It also aims to respond to lifelong learning, following the best international practices, with an admission regime that respects professional orientation, especially for students of late transition, with a flexible study program, mostly using distance learning.
The course also allows direct entry (without access exams) to the degrees offered at the same institution, with credits in the disciplines that are associated with the three courses, with a reduction in the duration of that degree, without loss of credits.
The development of this course in partnership with ISCAP follows the protocol created between Sonae MC and the Coordinating Council of the Higher Polytechnic Institutes (CCISP), which has also made possible the launch of the pioneer masters degree in 'Logistics and Supply Chain Management, LGCA' with the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS).
