Continente: Producers Club awards Innovation

'Low Alcohol Wine', by Sociedade Agrícola D. Diniz - Monte da Ravasqueira, and 'Biological Dehydrated Vegetable Mix', by Horto São Silvestre, were the products distinguished with the Innovation Awards at the Annual Meeting of the Continente Producers Club (CPC). Among the 13 projects developed in the CPC Academy’s last edition, these were the ones that stood out, collecting trophies for Arraiolos and Santarém (respectively).

Light and pale in colour, floral and with a marked acidity that accompanies its natural sweetness, 'Low Alcohol white wine' (7.5%) is ideal for everyday consumption and should be drunk chilled. Sociedade Agrícola D. Diniz - Monte da Ravasqueira, a member of the Continente Producers Club since 2020, followed a strategy focused on the consumer and market trends in order to present this innovative project, which will be available exclusively at Continente stores in the coming weeks.

The 'Biological Dehydrated Vegetable Mix' is a flour-like solution, made from the use of vegetables in perfect consumption conditions, which have undergone a dehydration process. A practical and versatile product, without additives, colouring or preservatives that can be used for pancakes, waffles, bread, crackers or other similar confections. Horto São Silvestre, a member of the Continente Producers Club since 2002, has grown together with Continente and thanks to this partnership it is, today, one of the references of Organic Agriculture in Portugal. The product may reach the market soon.

These awards, which included the participation of 13 producers (producer organizations and companies in the agricultural, livestock and agri-food sector), recognize companies that stand out for their products’ innovation, aligned with principles such as sustainability, circular economy and contribution to healthy eating habits and lifestyles.

Every year, the Continente Producers Club also awards the Excellence Award. This year, the distinction was awarded to the National Association of Protein Seeds, Oilseeds and Cereals Producers (ANPOC), which represents 5 organizations of Cereal Producers in Alentejo. This award distinguishes the producers who impact the Club for their strong partnership, and this year it was presented to José Palha, President of the Board of ANPOC.

ANPOC produces the flour used in the manufacture of bread in all Continente stores, representing an annual purchase of around 4,500 tonnes of wheat by Sonae MC. This chain project, unique at a national level, integrates all agents in the supply chain, from research, production, milling industry to distribution.

In 2020, through the Continente Producers Club, Sonae MC purchased 206 thousand tonnes of products from national production, with a total value of 365 million euros, which represents a growth of 28% compared to the tonnes purchased in 2019.

The Continente Producers Club’s goal is to make national products of excellence available to customers, resulting from a partnership work with producers, supported by technical-scientific knowledge and which aligns the offer with consumer trends. The Club is also committed to supporting local production, supporting small-scale producers, managing to supply some stores in the Continente retail chain, translating into an offer of “Products of the Region”.
