Continente installs chargers for electric vehicles
Charging electric vehicles while shopping is already possible at the Continente Matosinhos supermarket, which today opens the first Continente Plug&Charge hub in the country, with 18 charging stations - including two with fast charging (50kW).
This simple and innovative service, reserved for customers who download Continente’s Plug&Charge App and the Continente Card App, allows charging electric vehicles with up to 200km of autonomy in 1 hour, starting at 0.01 € / minute - the rate for fast chargers is fixed, while the rate for normal chargers depends on the average power used by each vehicle, that is, the internal charger itself.
The purpose of this service, which will also reach Amadora’s Continente next week, is to have national coverage, with hundreds of charging points, ensuring a maximum distance between hubs of approximately 100km and which should be completed by the end of 2021.
Continente Card holders who make purchases over € 30 in stores will be able to benefit from free charges, with about 35km of autonomy.
The installation of charging stations for electric vehicles is one of the investments covered by the financing of the European Investment Bank and the European Fund for Strategic Investments. Continente’s Plug&Charge is one of the initiatives of a global project launched several years ago by the company, with a view to improving consumption efficiency and environmental sustainability and will contribute to the commitment to reduce the carbon footprint assumed when signing the Paris Agreement.
