During the fair, customers will have at their disposal more than 400 tasting actions that will take place in the brand’s stores across the country. In Continente’s Vasco da Gama, Amadora, Oeiras and Gaiashopping stores there is also a permanent space dedicated to tastings, in the Wine cellar area, with temperature-controlled equipment, which allows customers to try some of the new products present at the Fair.
“Continente sells more than 40 million bottles of nationally produced wine per year, in a sector that continues to grow, with customers increasingly focusing on quality. White and rosé wines are becoming increasingly sought after and Continente is betting on this major trend. We have also reinforced our focus on wines developed in partnership with national producers, whose quality has been distinguished, year after year, in national and international competitions,” explains Paula Ferro, Director of the Wines and Spirits Business Unit.
Among the new products, wines from Alentejo stand out. From the Estremoz area, ‘Parcela Velha Red’ is for sale for €3.99, when the recommended selling price is €9.99, which reflects the typicality of the region and the identity of the producer Tiago Cabaço.
Another new product is the ‘Santa Vitória Signature Red’, produced in Beja by Casa de Santa Vitória, at €5.59, with the recommended retail price being €15.99. It is a wine composed of ‘Touriga Nacional’, ‘Syrah’ and ‘Trincadeira’ grape varieties, and has an aroma of black berries and spices.
From Casa Relvas, ‘São Miguel do Sul Signature Red’ is priced at €5.89, when the recommended selling price is €16.99. It presents an aroma of ripe red berries, notes of spice and vanilla, round and voluminous in the tasting, in other words, a very consensual wine from Alentejo.
From Adega de Borba, two new wines stand out: the ‘Outeiro dos Pinheiros white’ and the ‘Outeiro dos Pinheiros red’, both priced at €1.99, with the recommended retail price being €4.99. The red, made from the ‘Trincadeira’, ‘Aragonez’ and ‘Touriga Franca’ grape varieties, stands out for its fruity character and youth, while the white, made from typical Alentejo grape varieties, surprises with its freshness.
Still in Alentejo, from Ravasqueira, the highlights are the ‘Guarda Rios Premium’, both white and red, at €4.89 (recommended sales price of €13.99) and the ‘Coutada Velha Premium’, both white and red, with an RRP of €3.99 (recommended retail price of €9.99).
From the ‘Vinhos Verdes’ region, from Casa de Vila Nova, the ‘Torre de Vila Nova Premium Alvarinho’, on sale for €4.39, when the recommended selling price is €10.99 and the ‘Torre de Vila Nova Premium Alvarinho and Loureiro’, on sale for €4.99, when the recommended selling price is €12.49. These are two wines in which the grapes were harvested by hand and the oenology work allowed them to add volume and density.
For lovers of charcuterie, the fair marks the relaunch of Continente Seleção’s gammon range, which is based on attributes such as the region of origin (Beira Baixa-Lamego-Chaves and Spain), the slice cut, the mild flavour and an aging time of 12 Months. Among the novelties, the fair offers a new range of sliced black pork, field raised in Garvão-Alentejo. Among the options, the offer includes slices of red pork loin, pork sausage, ‘copita’ sausage and loin with a flavour marked by natural aging and the red pepper paste, so characteristic of Alentejo recipes.
In cheeses, the bet goes to the winners of the World Cheese Awards, namely the ‘Continente Seleção Azeitão PDO’ cheese, with the value of €5.99, the ‘Continente Seia Buttery Sheep's Cheese’, with the price of €8.49, and ‘Continente Seleção São Jorge cheese 7 months’, priced at €5.99, thus supporting national production. Customers can also find a wide variety of cheeses in smaller formats, ideal for snacking and promoting convivial moments between friends, such as the ‘Queijos Lagos’ mixed basket, with a recommended retail price of €3.49, the ‘Santiago’ cheese boards from €3.76, the four wedges of São Jorge cheese , from €5.65, or cheeses with spices and herbs from Italy, from ‘Herdade da Maia’, with a recommended selling price of €1.78.
The Continente Wine, Sausage and Cheese Fair is a way of supporting and paying homage to national production, showcasing the quality and diversity of Portuguese products, coming from different regions and different producers. In the wine category alone, the Continente Producers Club already has more than 50 members and national partners, reinforcing the dynamism and quality of this sector in Portugal.
