CONTINENTE PRODUCERS CLUB GETS TOGETHER AT THE OPEN DAY MADEIRA’S SECOND EDITION

Madeira’s Continente Producers Club (CPC) met on February 21st, at BAM, Madeira’s banana centre, for the second edition of Open Day Madeira, which aimed to promote the sharing of knowledge between the Agricultural and Agro-Food sectors and expand the participation of new suppliers. This initiative had the support of Madeira’s regional government.

The previous edition’s success encouraged the CPC to hold Open Day Madeira again, which highlighted innovations and advances in the Agricultural and Agro-Food sectors. This event provides unique opportunities for sharing knowledge, establishing partnerships and collaborations between producers, reinforcing CPC’s mission to boost the sustainable development of these sectors in the region.

José Carlos Salvado, Operations Director of Continente in Madeira, states, “MC is open to all farmers interested in collaborating with us or who want to know more about our working method in Continente stores. We are increasingly counting on a wide range of regional products, highlighting the best that is produced on the island of Madeira. In 2023, it acquired more than a thousand tonnes of fresh products from the region, which represented a growth of 30% more than the previous year, a value that amounted to 1.6 million euros in purchases. We maintain our expectation of exceeding these numbers again, reinforcing our commitment to valuing and promoting local products.”

BAM, Madeira’s banana centre, in Lugar de Baixo, was chosen as the location for the Open Day, symbolizing the CPC’s commitment to local production and continuous support for the development of regional agriculture. The event will be open to all producers in the Agricultural and Agro-Food sectors of Madeira interested in collaborating with Continente supermarkets.

The official responsible for the event states: “We want to continue to value Madeiran products and work increasingly closely and in conjunction with regional producers”. The initiative aims to strengthen ties between the CPC, producers and Continente supermarkets, consolidating the commitment to quality and sustainability.

The Continente brand has been present in Madeira since 1996 and currently promotes 1,100 jobs with the support of around 80 local producers who supply the stores. In the region, Continente supports 36 social institutions on a daily basis.
