MC DEBATES ELECTRIC MOBILITY MODELS IN PORTUGAL
MC, represented by the head of the energy area, Carlos Sampaio, was yesterday at the ConvERSE debate dedicated to the topic: “On the way to electrification - Operation and organization models of electric mobility”, promoted by ERSE - Regulatory Entity for Energy Services.
The discussion surrounding the Operation and Organization Models of Electric Mobility was one of the topics under debate, at a time when in Portugal, in 2023, the growth in the number of electric vehicles already surpassed last year’s sales.
“At MC, we believe it is imperative to create a democratic ecosystem in Electric Mobility, one that promotes innovation, competitiveness, efficiency and is accessible to all partners. We consider that our ‘Plug&Charge’ solution is an asset and plays a major role in this challenge”, says Carlos Sampaio, Head of the Energy Area at MC.
‘Plug&Charge’, the electric charging service of Continente stores, registered a 70% growth in customers throughout 2022 and a 105% increase in uses, exceeding 12 thousand users.
The service is present in 16 of the 18 districts of Mainland Portugal, in 40 Continente stores.
By the end of 2023, Continente plans to double the network, opening 55 more locations and 220 more parking spaces, being present in all districts, “democratizing electric mobility in Portugal and allowing customers to move comfortably across the country”.
The installation of charging stations for electric vehicles is one of the investments covered by the European Investment Bank’s and the European Fund for Strategic Investments’ funding.
Continente Plug&Charge is one of the initiatives of a global project launched several years ago by MC, with a view to improving consumption efficiency and environmental sustainability, and will contribute to the commitment to reduce the carbon footprint, assumed when signing the Paris Agreement.
MC’s investment in energy efficiency as a way to guarantee the long-term sustainability of its business is a priority and goes beyond the investments included in this specific project, such as investing in the opening of new stores that meet the highest energy efficiency standards.
