PORTO | LOMBA’S PRIMARY SCHOOL’S KINDERGARTEN WINS MISSÃO CONTINENTE SCHOOL CHALLENGE
Lomba’s primary school’s kindergarten, in Porto, won the first pre-school activity, of Missão Continente School’s 7th edition, with a challenge on ‘Fruits, vegetables and their origins’, receiving a 200 euros prize to be used in recreational -pedagogical material.
The challenge, made up of three steps: explore, question and discover, intends for children to explore the fruits and vegetables that are part of a healthy diet and learn how they are grown. For each of the three challenges launched throughout the school year, a winning classroom is selected. At the end of the school year, there is a classroom that becomes the big winner of the school year, being awarded with a recreational-pedagogical visit or a sum of €500 to be used in recreational-pedagogical material.
The participation of Lomba’s primary school’s kindergarten students completed the various proposed stages, exploring other areas such as reading, music and environmental education. In the end, the students created a life-sized model of a vegetable garden, demonstrating originality and using a wide variety of materials such as tree branches, moss, and modelling clay, among many others.
Missão Continente also awarded two honourable mentions, in this first activity, to S. João da Madeira’s Holy House of Mercy’s Kindergarten, in Aveiro, and to Ponte de Sor’s João de Deus Kindergarten, in Portalegre.
Missão Continente School, created in 2016, sensitizes pre-school, primary and elementary school students to healthy eating, conscious consumption and an active lifestyle. This school year, the programme is present in more than 800 schools across the country. In each edition, participants have access to content, educational activities, challenges (with associated prizes), recreational and educational materials, receive visits from Missão Continente School’s Ambassadors in their schools and have the possibility to visit Continente stores, where they take a guided tour exploring Missão Continente School’s themes.
Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, Missão Continente School is one of Continente’s several social responsibility initiatives, as part of its commitment to building a more sustainable future.
