AVER-O-MAR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WINS A PLACE ON THE PODIUM OF THE MISSÃO CONTINENTE SCHOOL CHALLENGE
The 5th grade class of the Aver-o-Mar Elementary School, in Póvoa de Varzim, ranked 3rd place in Missão Continente School’s 7th edition of the elementary school challenge, by creating a manifesto with proposals for changes related to climate change, and was awarded a 500 euros prize to be used in recreational and pedagogical material.
The challenge posed to schools was to create a Manifesto that encourages changes that involve the whole of society and also more individual changes, to be implemented on a daily basis, since both dimensions contribute to fighting climate change.
The Aver-o-Mar class identified the main problems at school and in the community, and explored topics such as the impact of digital technologies, food waste, carbon footprint, among others. The Manifesto was developed in poster format and shared both in physical and digital format.
Missão Continente also awarded 1st and 2nd places in this challenge, which involved 313 students from 11 schools from the north to the south of the country, to the Egas Moniz Elementary School, in Guimarães, and to the Monte da Caparica Elementary School, in Almada, respectively.
Missão Continente School, created in 2016, sensitizes pre-school, primary and elementary school students to healthy eating, conscious consumption and an active lifestyle. This school year, the programme is present in more than 800 schools across the country. In each edition, participants have access to content, educational activities, challenges (with associated prizes), recreational and educational materials, receive visits from Missão Continente School’s Ambassadors in their schools and have the possibility to visit Continente stores, where they take a guided tour exploring Missão Continente School’s themes.
Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, Missão Continente School is one of Continente’s several social responsibility initiatives, as part of its commitment to building a more sustainable future.
