Sonae MC/Elergone inaugurates Azambuja’s Photovoltaic Power Plant
The Largest Coverage on the Iberian Peninsula
With 6,900 panels, a power of 3MWp and an annual production of 4GWh, Sonae MC, through Elergone Energia, inaugurated the Azambuja’s photovoltaic power plant, which ensures 30% of that warehouse’s power. With an area of 20,000 m2, this is one of the largest coverage self-consumption power plants in the Iberian Peninsula.
A 'zero carbon' operation, through efficient energy production, from renewable sources, is fundamental to Sonae MC's environmental strategy. The company thus reinforces its investment in clean energy, which makes it possible to reduce estimated consumption by 30% and avoid CO2 emissions by 1,880 tonnes/year, the equivalent, in comparative terms, of more than 84 thousand planted trees.
In 2020, Elergone sold 685 GWh of electricity to meet the energy needs of its several industrial customers in Portugal, as well as the Sonae SGPS holding subsidiary companies’ needs (685 GWh corresponds to about 4% of the total electricity consumed by the industry in Portugal).
