CONTINENTE OPENS IN ALCANTARILHA
Continente today opens a new store in the ‘Sudoeste Retail Park’, in Alcantarilha, resulting in the creation of a total of 56 jobs. The new Continente Bom Dia Alcantarilha store is open daily from 8 am to 10 pm and has a sales area of around 1570 m2.
To highlight the arrival in the region, Missão Continente gifted shopping carts filled with essential goods to the institutions sponsored by the new store: CCCA - Carvoeiro Cat Charity Association, Portuguese Red Cross – Silves’ Delegation and Silves’ Pedagogical Farm – Silves’ City Council.
These institutions will be permanently supported by Missão Continente, through the new Continente Bom Dia Alcantarilha store’s daily food surpluses.
For Continente Bom Dia Alcantarilha Retail’s Director, Jorge Aires Tomás Delgado, who has been with MC for 10 years, “we want to keep being close to our customers, with a convenient service. This store’s location, next to the Alcantarilha roundabout on the EN125 and next to one of the accesses to ‘Via do Infante’, allows us this proximity and convenience, with the best product variety and at the best prices.”
This opening reinforces Continente’s commitment to the district of Faro and the municipality of Silves, which now have 19 and 2 stores, respectively.
Continente Bom Dia Alcantarilha Retail, like all the brand’s stores, allows consumers to use reusable bags when buying fruit, vegetables or bakery products. It also allows consumers to be active in the fight against food waste, through the sale of 0% waste boxes, which contain 5 kg of fruits and vegetables in good consumption conditions, but close to the limit of their shelf life, for €0.50/ kg. Also noteworthy are the fresh and seasonal products that are always available, from fruits and vegetables to bakery, butcher and fishmonger products that the store has to offer, with regional products.
The opening of the space is marked by a 10% discount on Continente Card campaign, throughout the entire store, between the 9th and 12th of June.
In the environmental front, we highlight the photovoltaic solar panels on the roof and in the car park, which guarantee the production of approximately 437 MWh/year of electrical energy, equivalent to the approximate consumption of 150 families, and which represents about 45% of the store’s consumption, guaranteeing its self-sufficiency in a period of more than 8 hours on a day with good solar radiation.
In terms of lighting, the store has 100% LED low-consumption light bulbs, equipment to control and reduce excessive water consumption and containers where customers can deposit used cooking oil, used batteries and cork stoppers, which will later be taken for recycling.

They look after the well-being of more than 200 cats, which includes feeding, medicating and veterinary treatments. Within their financial possibilities, the association also runs sterilization campaigns, thus helping to prevent overpopulation.
Portuguese Red Cross - Silves Delegation
The Portuguese Red Cross strives to prevent and alleviate human suffering, in Portugal and all over the world. The Silves - Albufeira Delegation intends to support individuals and families residing in these regions, in preventing and/or repairing problems created by social exclusion situations, and, in certain cases, by acting in emergency situations through programs developed at a national level by the Portuguese Red Cross or in partnership with other Social Network and/or Public Services entities.
Silves Pedagogical Farm – Silves City Council
Their goal is to preserve the animal and plant species typical of the Algarve mountain range and promote their dissemination among the population.
