{"id":8132,"date":"2020-11-19T15:59:58","date_gmt":"2020-11-19T15:59:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mc.sonae.pt\/?p=8132"},"modified":"2020-12-09T16:01:15","modified_gmt":"2020-12-09T16:01:15","slug":"responsible-plastic-from-continente-awarded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mc.sonae.pt\/en\/news\/responsible-plastic-from-continente-awarded\/","title":{"rendered":"‘Responsible Plastic’ from Continente awarded"},"content":{"rendered":"Continente\u2019s ‘Responsible Plastic’ project today received the \u201cRecognition of Practices in Social Responsibility and Sustainability\u201d award, in the 15th Edition of the Social Responsibility Week, an initiative of the Portuguese Association of Business Ethics (APEE) and the Global Compact Network Portugal.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe commitment to the responsible use of plastic assumed by Continente translates into the anticipation, by 2025, of the ambition defined by the European Union to, in 2030, reduce (or even eliminate when possible) the use of plastic materials of fossil origin, regarding private label products, ensuring that they all have reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging.\r\n\r\nTo achieve this, there are several initiatives that the brand has already implemented and which currently allow an annual savings of more than 4,200 tonnes of virgin plastic, which can be seen on the digital platform with the same name: plasticoresponsavel.continente.pt. Being aware that the problem of plastics covers the whole of civil society, from companies to private citizens, the website was launched to show what Continente has been doing, but also to raise awareness and involve consumers in more sustainable lifestyles.\r\n\r\nContinente\u2019s ‘ Responsible Plastic’ project was distinguished in the category of Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG), established by the United Nations until 2030: Sustainable Production and Consumption.\r\n\r\n\u201cWe need to create a circular ecosystem for plastics. And to do this we need everyone’s contribution. On Continente, we remain very committed to promoting a more responsible use of plastic, and awards such as these motivate us even more to continue on this path\u201d, said Pedro Lago, Director of Sustainability Projects and Circular Economy at Sonae MC, during the ceremony.\r\n\r\n“2020 – 2030 | The Decade of Sustainability\u201d is the motto of the 2020 Social Responsibility Week, which, for the first time, takes place online, between the 16th and 20th of November.
