The ceremony was attended by the President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development, Humberto Vasconcelos, the Regional Secretary for Economy, Rui Barreto, the President of the Funchal City Council, Pedro Calado, the Regional Director of Economy and Transport, Isabel Catarina, the CEO of MC, Lu\u00eds Moutinho, the Administrator of MC\u2019s operations, Jos\u00e9 Fortunato, the Director of the Continente Modelo Brand, Fernando Silva and the Director of Continente\u2019s Operations in Madeira, Jos\u00e9 Carlos Salvado .\r\n\r\nLocated in the S\u00e3o Lucas Building, on Estrada Monumental, in Funchal, the new Continente Modelo Monumental, featuring 1450 m<sup>2<\/sup> of sales area, represents an investment of more than 4 million euros.\r\n\r\n<strong>Continente Modelo Monumental images<\/strong> Link\r\n\r\n<strong>Inaugural Plaque Unveiling video<\/strong> link\r\n\r\nThe new store is open daily from 8 am to 10 pm and offers cafeteria, bakery and take-away services, as well as a Wells\u2019 store. Continente Modelo Monumental has 110 parking spaces and 13 cashiers, including 7 Self-Checkouts, for more autonomous purchasing.\r\n\r\nWith this new store, Continente now has 16 commercial spaces in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and opens the 7<sup>th<\/sup> store in the Municipality of Funchal. The brand also has a logistics warehouse, which facilitates supply to the Region.\r\n\r\nThe Inauguration of the Continente Modelo Monumental begins with a 10% discount on Continente Card campaign, between the 14<sup>th<\/sup> and 17<sup>th<\/sup> of September, which accumulates with current promotions.\r\n\r\nTo mark its arrival in the region, Miss\u00e3o Continente gifted shopping carts filled with essential goods to the institutions sponsored by the new store: \u2018S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9\u2019s Cultural and Sports Centre Association\u2019; \u2018Food Bank Against Hunger\u2019 in Madeira; \u2018Cec\u00edlia Zino Foundation\u2019 and \u2018SPAD &#8211; Society for the Protection of Domestic Animals of Funchal\u2019. These institutions will be permanently supported by Miss\u00e3o Continente, through the new Continente Modelo Monumental store\u2019s daily food surpluses.\r\n\r\n\u201c<em>We want to continue to value Madeiran products and work increasingly closely with regional producers. We have counted on the support of the Regional Government of Madeira to jointly develop regional agriculture. Continente wants to keep being a trusted brand for everyone, standing out and differentiating itself in food retail, and this opening and the various activities we carry out in Madeira throughout the year aim to reinforce this connection<\/em>,\u201d explained the CEO of MC, Lu\u00eds Moutinho.\r\n\r\nFor Continente\u2019s Director of Operations in Madeira, Jos\u00e9 Carlos Salvado \u201c<em>this is another of Continente\u2019s bets in the region. A plan to remodel store spaces is underway, which represents a strong investment to adapt them to the best that is done nationally and internationally in food retail. We have sought to make these investments in the region, with local companies, in order to contribute to a circular economy beneficial to everyone<\/em>\u201d.\r\n\r\nIn terms of environmental sustainability, the store features 100% LED light bulbs for energy-saving lighting, and control equipment to reduce excessive water consumption as well as containers where customers can deposit used batteries and cork stoppers, which will later be taken away for recycling.\r\n\r\nThe Continente brand has been present in Madeira since 1996 and currently promotes 1,150 jobs with the support of 80 local producers who supply the stores.
