These revolutionary crackers come to the market in two flavours – rosemary and tomato & basil (RRP of 2.49\u20ac; 80 g).\r\n\r\nThe new product, exclusively in Continente stores during the month of August, has a high protein content and is a source of fibre, and can be consumed as a snack or added as a crunchy topping in salads, soups and starters. Production is handmade and made with natural and sustainable ingredients.\r\n\r\nProduced by \u2018Portugal Bugs\u2019, a start-up based in Matosinhos, these products have the \u2018Continente Food Lab\u2019 pioneering label in Portugal, a project that allows the most innovative items and new global food trends to be easily disseminated to Continente\u2019s customers. The \u2018Continente Food Lab\u2019 products are launched from an experimental and dynamic perspective, in which customer feedback is crucial to keeping them in stores.\r\n\r\nInsects, consumed by about a third of the world\u2019s population, constitute a sustainable protein source and are rich in fibre, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids. When compared to other animal protein sources, insect production has a lower environmental impact due to a lower water footprint, lower greenhouse gas emissions, lower feed consumption and lower requirement for fertile soil.\r\n\r\nContinente was the first national retail brand to sell insect-based food products, after the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary Medicine (DGAV) authorized the consumption of seven insect species in the country. The first products were launched in August 2021, through \u2018Continente Food Lab\u2019.\r\n\r\nAbout \u2018Continente Food Lab\u2019<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\u2018Continente Food Lab\u2019 is a project that makes it easy to disseminate the most innovative items and new global food trends to Continente\u2019s customers. Products bearing the \u2018Continente Food Lab\u2019 seal are launched from an experimental and dynamic perspective, in which customer feedback is crucial to keeping them in stores.\r\n\r\nIt is present in 10 hypermarkets: Continente Matosinhos, Continente Colombo, Continente Gaia Shopping, Continente Gaia Jardim, Continente Telheiras, Continente Oeiras, Continente Vasco da Gama, Continente Cascais, Continente Antas and Continente Coimbra Shopping.
