{"id":12515,"date":"2022-06-08T17:22:37","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T17:22:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mc.sonae.pt\/?p=12515"},"modified":"2022-06-08T17:22:37","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T17:22:37","slug":"missao-continente-schools-6th-editions-final-challenge-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mc.sonae.pt\/en\/news\/missao-continente-schools-6th-editions-final-challenge-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"MISS\u00c3O CONTINENTE SCHOOL\u2019S 6TH EDITION\u2019S FINAL CHALLENGE WINNERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<strong>Students of the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> year of <a href=\"https:\/\/missao.continente.pt\/escola-missao-continente\/votacao-desafios-finalistas\/projetos\/acucar-nao-obrigado\/\">P\u00e9gada\u2019s EB School<\/a>, in Guimar\u00e3es, of the 4<sup>th<\/sup> year of <a href=\"https:\/\/missao.continente.pt\/escola-missao-continente\/votacao-desafios-finalistas\/projetos\/a-caminho-de-uma-vida-ativa\/\">Estreito da Calheta\u2019s EB1\/PE School<\/a>, in Madeira, and of the 5<sup>th<\/sup> year of <a href=\"https:\/\/missao.continente.pt\/escola-missao-continente\/votacao-desafios-finalistas\/projetos\/mais-olhos-que-barriga\/\">Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo\u2019s EB2 School<\/a>, in Guarda, were the big winners, at their respective level, of the 2021\/22 Miss\u00e3o Continente School\u2019s Final Challenge.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>The winning schools were awarded a \u2018D\u00e1 Card\u2019 (Give Card), worth \u20ac1,000, for the purchase of school, sports or recreational-pedagogical material, at the end-of-year event that brought together over 220 students from 9 schools across the country. The event took place in Lisbon, featuring the presence of the program\u2019s ambassadors J\u00e9ssica Silva, Filipa Gomes and Francisco Garcia.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nFor the final assignement of the 2021\/22 Miss\u00e3o Continente School program, the classes were challenged to solve a problem identified in their proximity environment (class, school, wider community or even at home), based on one of Miss\u00e3o Continente School\u2019s three main theme pillars &#8211; healthy eating, conscious consumption and active lifestyle.\r\n\r\nThe finalist schools presented their final projects to the jury members \u2013 Rita Barrocas, from Miss\u00e3o Continente; Helena Gil from the General Directorate of Education; Joana Baleia, from CEIDSS (Centre for Studies and Research in Social Dynamics and Health); Rui Mascarenhas, from the Portuguese Football Federation; Nathalie Ballan, from \u2018Sair da Casca\u2019; and Andr\u00e9 Mateus, from MOSSA \u2013 and spent the day between games and activities related to healthy eating, recycling and active lifestyles. \u2018Leopoldina\u2019 from Miss\u00e3o Continente and \u2018SuperQuinas\u2019 from the Portuguese Football Federation were also present.\r\n\r\nP\u00e9gada\u2019s EB School\u2019s class developed the \u201cA\u00e7\u00facar? N\u00e3o obrigado\u201d (\u201cSugar? No thanks\u201d) project with the aim of reducing the sugar content in students\u2019 meals, especially at breakfast. In the same tier (1<sup>st<\/sup> and 2<sup>nd<\/sup>), the Francelos\u2019 EB School, in Vila Nova de Gaia, and the Jos\u00e9 Carlos da Maia\u2019s EB School, in Olh\u00e3o, were the schools that came in 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place, respectively.\r\n\r\nThe Estreito da Calheta\u2019s EB1\/PE School\u2019s students carried out the \u201cA caminho de uma vida ativa\u201d (\u201cOn the way to an active life\u201d) multidisciplinary project (which involved 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 3<sup>rd<\/sup> and 4<sup>th<\/sup> graders) which featured awareness-raising actions among students, but also the educational community. In this tier (3<sup>rd<\/sup> and 4<sup>th<\/sup> years), the \u2018Real Col\u00e9gio de Portugal\u2019, from Lisbon, and the Castro Matoso EB School, from Aveiro, were the schools that came in 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place, respectively.\r\n\r\nRegarding the \u201cMais olhos que barriga!\u201d (\u201cBiting off more than\u00a0you can chew\u201d) project, from Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo\u2019s EB2 School, several activities were developed with the goal of reducing by 10% the number of students who have a BMI (Body Mass Index) above normal for their age and increase by 10% the number of students who bring healthy snacks, in the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> to 6<sup>th<\/sup> grade classes. General Serpa Pinto\u2019s EB School, from Cinf\u00e3es, and Prado\u2019s EB School, from Vila Verde, came in 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place, respectively, in this tier (5<sup>th<\/sup> and 6<sup>th<\/sup> years).\r\n\r\nThis Miss\u00e3o Continente School program\u2019s 6<sup>th<\/sup> edition, which had already covered the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Basic Education Cycle (CEB) since 2016, was extended to Pre-School and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Basic Education Cycle (CEB). From the 1<sup>st<\/sup> CEB, a total of 557 schools (57,232 students) have registered, 28% more compared to last year, Pre-school was represented by 109 schools (4,365 students), and from the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> CEB, 56 schools participated (9,107 students). In total, more than 70,000 students from 655 schools from all districts of the country participated in the program this school year.\r\n\r\nContinente\u2019s Educational Program aims to impact students, teachers, parents and the entire school community, raising awareness among young people on healthy eating and lifestyles and educating them on conscious and sustainable consumption.
