{"id":11283,"date":"2022-01-19T17:46:34","date_gmt":"2022-01-19T17:46:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mc.sonae.pt\/?p=11283"},"modified":"2022-01-19T17:46:34","modified_gmt":"2022-01-19T17:46:34","slug":"continente-purchases-18-million-kg-of-oranges-from-the-algarve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mc.sonae.pt\/en\/news\/continente-purchases-18-million-kg-of-oranges-from-the-algarve\/","title":{"rendered":"CONTINENTE PURCHASES 18 MILLION KG OF ORANGES FROM THE ALGARVE"},"content":{"rendered":"<strong>This year, Continente will acquire 18 million kg of oranges from the Algarve, from national producers, through the Continente Producers Club (CPC), which guarantee safe and sustainable certification processes, an increase of 10% compared to 2021.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nContinente thus reinforces its contribution to the regional economy\u2019s sustainability and development.\r\n\r\nIn 2021, Continente stores\u2019 customers purchased 16 million kg of oranges from the Algarve, from certified orchards. All the oranges available in Continente stores, including the oranges in the stores\u2019 juice machines, as well as the fresh orange juice for sale in BAGGA cafeterias, are oranges from the Algarve, hand-picked at their optimal point of consumption, which allows for more flavour and more nutritional richness.\r\n\r\nThe CPC, in partnership with its producers, guarantees that the best agricultural practices are used in Algarve\u2019s orchards, with a strong investment in the well-being of the people involved in the production and harvesting processes.\r\n\r\nThe two thousand acres of orchards are spread between Tavira and Silves and belong to around 100 producers who make up the four Producer Organizations Members of the Continente Producers Club. Algarve Oranges have PGI certification \u2013 Protected Geographical Indication \u2013 which certifies that the product has a certain quality, reputation or other characteristics that can essentially be attributed to its geographical origin.\r\n\r\n\u201c<em>Algarve Oranges, produced by our producers, have food-safe certification processes and are environmentally sustainable, with a harvesting process that allows the Algarve Orange sold in Continente stores to be sweeter, juicier and more aromatic.
