{"id":11185,"date":"2021-12-22T18:53:27","date_gmt":"2021-12-22T18:53:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mc.sonae.pt\/?p=11185"},"modified":"2021-12-23T18:55:29","modified_gmt":"2021-12-23T18:55:29","slug":"meu-super-donates-3000-kilos-of-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mc.sonae.pt\/en\/news\/meu-super-donates-3000-kilos-of-food\/","title":{"rendered":"MEU SUPER DONATES 3000 KILOS OF FOOD"},"content":{"rendered":"<strong>This year, Meu Super supermarkets donated a total of 3000 kg of food through campaigns, together with \u2018Animalife\u2019 and the Portuguese Red Cross, in a total of 3500 shopping vouchers.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nIn its 10<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary year, Meu Super opened 37 commercial spaces in Mainland Portugal, Madeira, Azores and Cape Verde, continuing the brand\u2019s expansion strategy, which allowed for more than 300 stores across the country, with a total sales area of 50 thousand m<sup>2<\/sup> and the creation of more than 1500 jobs.\r\n\r\nFighting food waste is also one of the priorities of Sonae MC\u2019s proximity brand, which, in 2021, avoided wasting a total of 6787 \u2018magic boxes\u2019 that were in good consumption conditions, through the \u2018Too Good To Go\u2019 app. The \u2018magic boxes\u2019, with a single price of \u20ac2.99 or \u20ac3.99, allow customers to find several different items, including fruits, vegetables, biscuits, cakes, juices, yogurts, among others.\r\n\r\nAccording to Tom\u00e1s Lince Fernandes, General Director at Meu Super, \u201c<em>food waste is everyone\u2019s problem and is a serious challenge for the sustainable food system. That\u2019s why at Meu Super we continue to fight tirelessly to reduce the waste of food in consumption conditions<\/em>&#8220;.\r\n\r\nThe donated items are considered surplus when they lose their commercial character, but preserve all food safety and hygiene conditions, being in good consumption condition.
